|Cemetery notes and/or description:|
Mackinac Island (or Protestant) Cemetery is on state land along Garrison Road north of Fort Mackinac. Graves were first moved there from the downtown area in 1850, forced by overcrowding and development. The original Protestant Cemetery was behind Mission Church and was out of space. The federal government allowed the city to move the cemetery to it's present location in the military reservation (now the State Park).
Section 22 (new ground) within this cemetery has been reserved for use for Jewish burials.
