This large cemetery, opened about 1868 and still in use, is maintained by Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council. It has a mortuary chapel which is Grade II listed.
There are four gates, two situated on main St., one on Summer Lane and one on Cemetery Road.
The first burial was Emma Sheldon and there is one interment of a casualty of the 1958 Munich Air Disaster.
