|Cemetery notes and/or description:|
This cemetery is also known as Asahel Atherton Cemetery and is in very poor condition and is listed as abandoned on the State of Michigan Genealogy Website. Headstones are missing or so badly damaged as to be unreadable. The information given here was collected from printed family history or given by the families. Original source Mrs. Chas. Durand 1930, D.A.R. and Merle Perry, Jr. in 1963 and relationship information was gleaned from the book 'Family Records and History of the Atherton Family from the Atherton Family Association, compiled in 1902-1903 from records then in existence.' From this book we can see that there are probably many infants/children buried here but presently there are no records to prove their burial location. If you have a correction or more complete information, please contact me. Thank you.
There seems to be some confusion regarding the 'Atherton' Cemeteries as there are two of them located in Genesee County, MI. One was located in section 28, at Atherton and Center Roads, in Burton, MI. Bodies from that Atherton Cemetery were removed to Evergreen Cemetery in Grand Blanc. The Asahel Atherton Cemetery, located in Sec. 4 of Argentine Township and listed here was started as an Atherton family Cemetery and is still located on the Atherton family farm in Argentine Township, Genesee County, Michigan.
