Cemetery notes and/or description:
Monnett Chapel Cemetery is in Bucyrus Township, Crawford County Ohio at 999 Columbus Sandusky Road (the south east corner of the intersection of Ohio Route 98 and Monnett Chapel Road). The cemetery was established by Reverend Jeremiah Crabb Monnett shortly after moving to Crawford County from Pickaway County Ohio in 1835. Monnett was a preacher in the Methodist Episcopal (M.E.) Church, and most of the early early burials were members of chapel that he established at the site. In 1903 a substantial blue limestone chapel designed in the French Norman style by Frank Packard (AIA) of Columbus was erected on the site. The Chapel is listed on that National Register of Historic Places. Dominating the cemetery is the Monnett Memorial, a large black granite avenue of headstones and markers (some of which are cenotaphs). The majority of the 130+ graves are laid in rows; there is no sequential order to the burials. A complete census of burials was recorded and published in the 1980s. Monnett Chapel and teh cemetery remain in the Monnett family; a baptist congregation occupies the chapel at present (2009).
