|Cemetery notes and/or description:|
Melvin Hill Cemetery is located in the Town of Phelps, on the west side of Melvin Hill Road and north of County Road 21, in lot 85, approximately five miles north of the City of Geneva, and three miles south of the village of Phelps.
The cemetery was to serve the community of Melvin Hill and the land was originally donated by John Salisbury. This was part of his original lot 85 which he purchased in 1791. The Melvin Hill Cemetery Association was incorporated on November 10, 1908. The recording of the Association's Incorporation is dated December 7, 1908 and is found in Liber 3, page 262 of the Ontario County Certificates of Incorporation.
The first interment at this location was that of Sarah Ann Salisbury, daughter of John and Poly Salisbury in March of 1823. Additional history and this cemetery and the people interred can be found in the "The Personalities of Melvin Hill Cemetery ", by David L. Burnisky, Heritage Books, Inc, 1995.
