Add PhotosThe Blackfriars were first recorded in Exeter in 1232, and their friary church was dedicated in 1259 by the Bishop of Exeter, Walter Bronescombe. Their perimeter was Chapel Street, Catherine Street and the city walls, and quickly evolved into a monastic complex that survived for over 300 years before it was dissolved by Henry VIII on 15 September 1538
Nothing has survived of this monastery, chapel or it's churchyard, since it's destruction in the dissolution of the monasteries almost five hundred years ago.
The site is now a shopping complex.
