Alexander Magruder "The Immigrant" arrived in Maryland from Scotland as an indentured servant in 1652. His original plantation was 400 acres called, "Anchovie Hills" which was located in Calvert County, Maryland. When boundary lines changed, it was then located in Prince George's County. Alexander became a tobacco planter and was the owner of large land holdings in Maryland.
When he died, he was buried at his plantation, "Anchovie Hills", in Baden, Prince George's County, Maryland. His will, probated 25 July 1677, bequeaths his "home plantation of 800 acres", which was the original plantation with 400 additional acres of surrounding land that he purchased. It was located to the southeast of the intersection of the present day Magruder's Ferry Road and Croom Road in Naylor, Prince George's County, Maryland.
A portion of the original plantation is now the Anchovie Hills Wildlife Sanctuary, which is located close to the original Magruder's Landing, at the location now called Magruder's Ferry Boat Ramp.
Although the boat ramp is open to the public, there is no public access to the private home. There is no evidence of any remaining gravestones on the property.
