|Cemetery notes and/or description:|
Pebmarsh is a small village and a civil parish the Braintree district, in Essex, England. It is situated to the north east of Halstead close to the A131. The Church stands on a mound just above the bottom of the valley, in the centre of the village and is dedicated to St. John the Baptist, although there is evidence from wills that in the 1500's it had been dedicated to The Virgin Mary. The parish is in the Diocese of Chelmsford and Pebmarsh is part of the benefice of "Knights and Hospitallers": the other churches of the benefice being St Mary the Virgin, Gestingthorpe; St Giles, Great Maplestead; and St John the Baptist, Little Maplestead (The Round Church).
A notable interment is that of Robert John Cockerill, ( 1841- 1896.) a victim of a particularly ghastly murder in the village. (text by Geoffrey Gillon)
