|Cemetery notes and/or description:|
Burial information for this cemetery was made available by Denise Wellenstein. More information was available at www.concatmedia.com/genealogy/hazelton1.html, but site is not reachable at this point. Many nice photos could be seen at that site.
If you come by the Thruway get off at Herkimer, Exit 30. Turn left onto Route 28 South, go over the bridge and continue on Route 28 South into Mohawk and to Orendorf Corners and turn right on County Route 18 (Jordanville Road.) Go through Columbia Center and turn right on Stroupe Road. The cemetery is on the right hand side.
Alternatively, from the four corners in Cedarville, Rte 51 and Jordanville Rd, where the Country store is, go up the hill on Jordanville Rd. toward Columbia Center.
Toward the top of the hill, about half way to Columbia Center (a mile or so) look for a dirt road on the right called Casler Road. If the road is not labeled, the Casler farm (perhaps now Jaboski farm) is on the right.
Turn left onto Stroup Rd off of Jordanville road, almost across from the farm. There should be some kind of road or pathway up a hill alongside the field. There may be a trailer house around that area too.
At the top of this hill, there are sections of cornfields. The cemetery is pretty small, and will be hidden in the brush to the right along the edges of the cornfields. You may be able to see the Casler/Jabroski farm through the trees from the cemetery.
From DAR records, Oneida Chapter, Bible, Cemetery & Church Records, Vol. 2, (found on microfiche in the Utica Public Library) this is listed under Columbia Township Cemeteries as the Burying Ground on Hazelton Farm, about 2 miles west of Columbia Center on the Cedarville Road on the north side of the road, in Herkimer County, New York.
Map location was updated after a visit, and should be quite accurate. It should be considered more accurate than the text above.
