Cemetery notes and/or description: The start of East Haven's first cemetery, called the "Burying Ground" was on 13th June 1707 when it was "agreed to sequester a piece of land for a burying place". Previously, the first settlers carried the dead to New Haven's ancient burying ground now called upper green behind Center Church.
The oldest stone in the Burying Ground found bears the date of 1712. It is doubtful if there are any earlier dates.
In 1868 the Burying Ground took on the name of "Old Cemetery"
