|Cemetery notes and/or description:|
This is the family cemetery for Preston Henderson (1795-1857) and his wife Darotha "Dolly" Teague (1798-1868), who lived nearby from the early 1800s until their deaths. Both are buried here as well as several of their children, their spouses and their children. The farm passed into the possession of their son John Bond Henderson who raised his family on the same land.
This cemetery is on private property, a considerable distance from the public road. A locked gate, a seasonal stream, and a large field must be crossed to access the cemetery.
The cemetery was in rough condition in November 2010 when I visited it. At that time, cattle were occasionally able to roam into the cemetery, and much of the damage may have been caused by them. When I visited the cemetery around 1990, it was in much better condition.
UPDATE: On November 26, 2016, my cousin Robert Wayne Henderson, Jr., my son Colby Pittard and I (Billy Pittard) spent the day cleaning up the cemetery and resetting several of the headstone. Although we worked on it all day, there is still much more to do.
