It is described as a closed cemetery but in fact recent burials of Muslims suggest this is not so.The Woodgrange Park Cemetery Act of 1993 allowed for the exhumation of some 14,000 bodies and the sale of land for the construction of flats to be built on the north east end of the cemetery grounds. As for the remains that were taken from this area of the cemetery, they were interred in another area of the cemetery, which is now known as the Memorial Garden of Remembrance. It is the Friends of Woodgrange Park Cemetery who still support the Memorial Garden of Remembrance and its place within the cemetery, which is still under construction. A Book of Remembrance is being prepared, holding all those names that were removed from their original resting place.
The first burial was in 1889 and the registers from that date to 1971 have been filmed by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and are available at the London Family History Centre. Copies can also be hired via LDS Family History Libraries at their Churches. Each Register is indexed.Registers from 1981 held at Cemetery, together with card index in numerical order for private graves. The charge per 'look-up' by Badgehurst Ltd as at February 2010 is £25.00(Text by Geoffrey Gillon)
