Mecklenburgische Seenplattener Landkreis
|Cemetery notes and/or description:|
Mirow is a small town in North-Eastern Germany, in the State of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.
The Grand Dukes of Mecklenburg-Strelitz had one of their residences on a small island in Mirow Lake. In the church, dedicated to Saint John the Babptist, are two crypts which have been the burial ground for the family for the past 300 years.
The church dates back to the 13th century. The current Gothic building dates back to 1650. Despite the church having cought on fire several times, the crypts and the coffins inside have survived. A large scale renovation of the Old and New Crypt (Alte und Neue Gruft) had taken place in 1996.
The building is still in use and owned by the Lutheran Church of Mirow.
