|Cemetery notes and/or description:|
The Hood Cemetery was located near the Old Providence Church in Forrest County about ten miles north of Hattiesburg, Mississippi. It had been in use since the early 1800s and many pioneer settlers of this area were buried there. The use of it was discontinued around 1890-1900 when a Cemetery was open at the present Church. The Cemetery has now been destroyed and markers lost. The Information about the Hood Cemetery, as well as the partial list of names and dates are from Cemetery records recorded from A book of Forrest County, Mississippi Cemetery Records published 1983. The Map below is were a Decendent of Stephen Rawls Perry and Sarah Lee Perry told me were the Old Hood Cemetery is located, in the middle of a Cow Pasture (And it is). This is all that is left of the Tombstones. A man purchased the land in the 1950's and cleared the land, and stack the Tombstone's by the oak tree and as the year's went by the Tombstones disappeared.
