|Cemetery notes and/or description:|
This is the Original Burial Ground of Patriarch "Father" John Smith and his wife, Clarissa Lyman Smith plus several members of the immediate Smith Family
There is convoluted evidence that subsequent family members, and/or those wishing to make use of the property for other prospects allegedly went against the wishes of family who had dedicated this consecrated ground.
This was against their wishes, specifically including the pleading by their son - Apostle George A Smith's recorded 1856 petition to the LDS Church and SL City Council stated that he wished his parents burials remain undisturbed and they be allowed to rest in peace in their orchard.
The John & Clarissa Smith family home, which consisted of the two lots facing West Temple Street and is now the site of the LDS Church History Museum and the Church Family History Library, was the location where John and Clarissa were buried in 1854.
Perhaps it would nowadays be called Smith Family Cemetery, Defunct.
The hallowed orchard area was then called the Smith Family Cemetery.
The current address of the Church History Museum is:
45 North West Temple Street
