Cemetery notes and/or description:
Howell Cemetery located in George
County, Mississippi. This one, however, is located in the
Basin Community.
Leaving Lucedale on Hwy 26 west you will go west until you
see the Shady Grove Cemetery on your left, just after you
pass this cemetery you will take the next left hand turn
onto Old Hwy 26. Stay on this road for 1.3 miles and you
will come to an intersection on your left with Howell Mill
Road. Turn left onto this road and go .6 miles where you
will see Howell Cemetery road on your right. Turn right and
go .4 tenths of a mile and you will dead end at this
cemetery. The cemetery belongs to the Howell family and is
maintained by Delois Howell, the wife of Benny Howell who
is the Great Great Grandson of G.M. Howell who's wife
Elizabeth was the first person buried in this cemetery.
Stanley Stringfellow another Great Great grandson helps
occasionally with the maintenance. The cemetery is
surrounded by a chain link fence and is in good condition.
The cemetery was walked on 26th of October, 2007 by Mr. Tommy Howell(another
decendent of Mr. G.M. Howell), and Jimmy Trussell. The
information is being taken from
existing headstones and concrete slab inscriptions.
