It was established in 1763 and was the First burial ground in Hackettstown and final resting place for members of many of the Hackettstown's ancestral families. It is estimated that there are somewhere between 800 and 1,000 people buried in the cemetery, and 29 of the interred are Revolutionary War Soldiers. The land was donated by Obediah Ayres. There are over 200 marked graves, four with the rare cherub/winged angel motif. Montgomery Reading, grandson of John Reading, Royal Governor of West New Jersey, 1746. 29 Revolutionary War veterans and 10 War of 1812 veterans. First burial: Nathanial; died while building this church in 1763.
