|Cemetery notes and/or description:|
Calvary Cemetery is located on Kinzie Avenue in Racine, east of the intersection with West Boulevard and Osborne Boulevard. It was established in 1853, at the same time as neighboring Saint Mary's Cemetery, which was renamed to Old Holy Cross Cemetery in 1929. Originally, Calvary Cemetery served the English-speaking Catholic community, while Saint Mary's Cemetery served the English-speaking Catholics. Containing 17 acres, the cemetery features in-ground burials as well as the Garden Crypts.
Calvary Cemetery lies to the east of Old Holy Cross Cemetery. There is no fence or marked dividing line between the two cemeteries, only a roadway. This fact often causes confusion between the two.
This cemetery, along with Old Holy Cross Cemetery, Holy Cross Cemetery, and Holy Family Cemetery, is one of four which are operated by the Catholic Cemetery Association of Racine, with the office located at Holy Cross Cemetery in Caledonia.
