|Cemetery notes and/or description:|
Note: Graves from the Philadelphia German Lutheran Cemetery, depending on how old they were, may have been moved twice. The first location of the GLC was around 4th & Cherry St. Those graves were moved to 31st & Lehigh sometime around 1880. Sadly, the second location was also closed around 1960 to allow for the building of a school. At that time, graves were reinterred to a new "German Lutheran Cemetery section" at the Philadelphia Memorial Park in Chester County PA, or to Greenmount Cemetery in Philadelphia, or to any other cemetery at the request of the family. Most graves were reinterred to the Philadelphia Memorial Park in Chester County.
The German Lutheran Cemetery Card Catalog is browsable on ancestry.com. Over 5000 names are listed there. A microfilm of the same card catalog is also viewable at the Philadelphia Historical Society in downtown Philadelphia.
The GLC ledger book (circa 1870 to 1960) was sent to the research library of the Chester County Historical Society. The archivist there can do look-ups upon request for a modest fee.
