|Cemetery notes and/or description:|
Wahoo Church Cemetery is a predominantly black cemetery established in the 1870's and no longer used for burials. Once part of the 1,500 acre Thompson Farm, the cemetery is on a one-acre plot donated in 1876 by Ovid B. Thompson for his tenant farmers to use for a church (Wahoo Baptist) and cemetery.
The cemetery was abandoned for many decades, but was cleaned and restored by volunteers between 2000--2006. It contains 100's of graves, most of which are no longer marked or are marked but have no (legible) inscriptions. Family names that appear frequently in Wahoo Cemetery include Burt, Couch, Martin, McKinney, Robinson, and Thompson.
Wahoo Cemetery is in northern Hall County, just outside the Gainesville city limits. It is just past the fire station on Nancy Creek Road.
