Lock Cemetery
Saint James
Fayette County
Illinois  USA

Cemetery notes and/or description:
This small family cemetery was started in 1841 when John Switzer, age 20, fell from a fence and broke his neck. This was the first burial. The latest stone found was from 1889. The cemetery is located in Section 35 in a field, southeast of the village of St. James, Fayette County, Illinois.

The cemetery was copied by Lena Lovett and Pauline Ragel. A few legible stones were found. There were a few stones on which the inscriptions would not be brought out. There are evidences of other graves so several people were probably buried here without stones.

Some of those buried without tombstones, or where the tombstones have been buried or carried off were: Adam LOCK's mother, "Grandma LOCK", name unknown; several LOCK children, a man named Tom RICE, who was an uncle of Mr. BLEDSOE, a man named WILLIAMS and a man named LOVELESS, a suicide who was buried outside the cemetery.

This info can be found in Fayette Facts, Vol 8, #3, P 8K.
