Joseph Lastie Hebert came to Southwest Louisiana in 1845 and homesteaded land near the Calcasieu River. The community was called Hecker. He donated six (6) acres of his land for a Cemetery. Joseph Lastie died in 1868 and was the first person to be buried in the Cemetery. He was the father of Francois (Ta-Ta) Hebert.
The cemetery was officially named Francois Hebert Cemetery, incorporated on the 27th day of Sept 1946.
The cemetery is in Jefferson Davis Parish, located north of Iowa, La on Hwy 383. Travel nine and a half miles and turn left on Hecker Road continuing six tenths of a mile. Turn Left on Old Hecker Road for one mile and turn left following cemetery arrows for one half of a mile to Luther's Road. Turn right on Cemetery Road for one half of a mile to the cemetery.
