Cemetery notes and/or description:

There were no white settlers in the area between the Ocmulgee and Flint Rivers until May of 1821. This was when the Creek Indians were removed and the whites came to settle. Hugh Millen Tidwell moved from Twiggs County, Georgia to Bibb County, Georgia about 1838. William Eli Tidwell moved about 1844. William Eli Tidwell died about 1847-48 and was the first one buried in the family cemetery. When they came here, the only things in this area of Georgia were Indians paths through the virgin wilderness. The
Tidwell brothers helped carve a civilization out of these woods. Is their burial site worth saving? The Tidwell Family Cemetery will be one of the most Historic things that has been preserved in this part of Bibb County.

April 21st, 1981

I have diligently searched many records and am still searching records to learn the names, dates of birth and death of those buried in the cemetery. By knowing who lived, when they lived and died, a reasonable conclusion can be reached as to who was buried here. The state kept no birth and death records in those days, and family was rather lax about keeping such records. It is no easy task to find this information. The list now stands at 51 names and it is possible there may be a few others added. The last burial took place on April 26th, 1930, when Hugh W. Tidwell, youngest son of Hugh Millen Tidwell died.
