|between Tracy and Dry Fork|
|Cemetery notes and/or description:|
This cemetery on GenWeb is identified as Ellis Cemetery # 2 (of four Ellis cemeteries in Barren county listed). It is located on the Kenneth Mattingly farm on Highway 921 between Tracy and Dry Fork on the south side of Highway 921 just west of Defeated Creek Road. It is in a field on the south side of Highway 921 about 100 yards off the road in a clump of small trees.
John and Elizabeth Chapman Ellis were buried in a graveyard on their farm. Elizabeth was the first recorded burial, her death having occurred in 1840. John died about nine years later and was buried next to her. The graveyard became known as the Ellis Cemetery and over the ensuing years many family members were buried there.
In May of 2000 dairy cows were being allowed to roam freely amongst the tombstones with more than half of them fallen and many broken. There was a low wall around the cemetery which the cows easily jumped in and out to enjoy the shade of the trees. To read the stones it was necessary to chase the cows away for they blocked our view of reading the stones.
