|Mitchell Family Cemetery|
Also known as: Dillard Cemetery
|Cemetery notes and/or description:|
This old Cemetery is known as the Mitchell Family Cemetery aka Dillard Cemetery. It is located north northeast of Clifton City in Clear Creek township. It is in the Southeast quarter of the northwest quarter of section 21.
Another description states the location as "in the western part of Section 21, Township 47 North; Range 19 West; on the present farm of Carl J. Twenter, about a quarter of a mile east of his home, in a woods." This farm was previously known as the Jake Deuschle Farm.
History: There are many stones here that are only marked by native stones. The cemetery is located in the woods, off the road, no road leads to it. One must cross a branch and go up a hill to find it. An old log school house is thought to have once stood there which was used as a "meeting house". No records were kept other than family records. Nineteen entries are documented on GenWeb. Many of the burials are children. Now overgrown with weeds and brush.
