|Cemetery notes and/or description:|
The Butt Cemetery had it's beginning in the fall of 1856, September and October, when Effie Butt, and four sons died of typhoid fever and were buried on the family farm, high on a hill above the Wabash River and the old Wabash & Erie Canal. It is thought that the filthy canal and a family-dug-well were the sources for the disease. William Butt, Sr. died later of the typhoid disease.
Friends and family continued to make use of the Butt Cemetery.
The Butt Cemetery was fenced and cleared of shrubs and trees in 1976.
