Cemetery notes and/or description:
Location: T15N-R9E-S5

This is an abandoned cemetery located on what is now land belonging to Cooper Vines, Located on the south side of a local road no longer in use. It is approximately three miles west of McCool. All inscriptions were carved on native rock of the sandstone variety and very hard to read. Several large rocks with a smooth side may have been used as markers many years ago. This cemetery belongs to the John Boyd – Pinckney Jones family.

It was copied in July 1968 by Mr. & Mrs. John E. Jones.

The above information taken from “Attala County, Miss., Cemeteries”, page 32

The following information gives additional information and is more up to date and clarifies some of the information given above. It is provided by David Blaine who is the great great-grandson of Cyrus Boyd.

“The local road mentioned is no longer in use. There were, at one time, several houses along this road. They are no longer there. Notation says this cemetery belongs to the John Boyd – Pinckney Jones families. This is not entirely correct. John Boyd got control of the land around 1891 and then it went to his son, B. B. Boyd who sold it around 1945. Pinckney Jones was married to John’s sister, Mary. They owned a piece of land adjoining the Boyd land. I have found no evidence that any of the Jones family were buried in this cemetery. The Jones people who did this cemetery survey in 1968 were not related to the Pinckney Jones family.”

“Cyrus Boyd had land north of Berea and south of French Camp. They were living there in 1860. By 1870, they had moved to this land. It is believed this cemetery was already in use when Cyrus bought this land.”
