Cemetery notes and/or description:
The cemetery was laid out by members of the Hickman family in 1828 on the grounds of the farm and mansion of Richard Riley Hickman. It was to remain as a cemetery under the care of the Hickman family and its trustees in perpetuity. In 1882, Rebecca Hickman Jefferis, had a low (20") stone wall built to enclose the cemetery. It was built by John Garrett and John Burns.
The land has since been developed, and a house now occupies the ground. Several of the grave markers have been subsumed. The grounds are still surrounded by a low stone wall that was erected in the 19th century. Unfortunately, the grounds are private property and are not accessible without permission. |
