This is officially known as Corps of Engineers Group III Reinterment Site #4, Jordan Lake Area Relocated Cemeteries.
It was created in the early 1970s in the course of the construction of nearby Jordan Lake by the relocation of a number of small private cemeteries which were scheduled to be inundated by the rising waters. Corps of Engineers records include a number of interments for which no stones now exist. It is maintained by the Gum Springs Baptist Church, which lies just across Gum Springs Road.
