Cemetery notes and/or description:
The surname is spelled either "Northrop," or "Northrup," many times interchangeably. Even transcribers spell this cemetery's name both ways. According to the J. W. Poucher book, "Old Gravestones of Dutchess County, New York", this cemetery is: "In the village of Lithgow, immediately to the northwest of Saint Peter's Church". The "Dutchess County Cemeteries: Town of Washington Cemeteries" site says it's behind the current Saint Peter's Church building on Deep Hollow Road neat Rt 44. Although so nearby, this cemetery is not Saint Peter's Episcopal Church Cemetery, but a separate, older one. The oldest extant marker is dated 1787, the next is dated 1796. However, Hannah Tabor's 1777 marker is supposed to bear the inscription: "The first to be buried here". Poucher counted 76 markers in all in his 1914 survey.
