|Cemetery notes and/or description:|
Location: In Hillsborough Township NE of Hillsborough off Hwy 57 at Mars Hill. On the north side of the highway about 800 feet north of Strouds Creek Road, which is just north of the Mars Hill Baptist Church.
Additional information: The meeting house and cemetery property of 5 acres was rented to the Quaker Meeting on July 15, 1768 by Joseph Maddock for a five shilling payment plus 4 pence per year. In 1973, the cemetery was surrounded by a rock wall and was in fair condition. There were 57 marked, but weathered graves. In 2005, the cemetery was unattended and had a number of fallen trees, a heavy growth of saplings and briar bushes, was covered in periwinkle, suggestive of a heavy vegetation cover in the summer.
The Chapel Hill Friends Meeting established an Eno Cemetery Committee that conducted a study relating to the cemetery from 1999 thru 2001. The general purpose was to determine if it was feasible to restore and preserve it. Their conclusion was that it was not within the capability of the Meeting to do this, and that no other organization contacted was willing to accept the responsibility. Their report is recorded in the Orange County Register of Deeds office in Book 2483, Pages 248-257.
24 graves are marked only by intials and have not been listed.
