The Cemetery is located aobut one and a half miles east of Lebanon. The cemetery was adjacent to Burney Institute. The Burney Institute was established in 1854 by the Chickasaw Council as a school for Chickasaw girls. The name was changed to Chickasaw Orphan Home and Manual Labor School in 1887. In 2006 the Chickasaw tribe repurchased the cemetery and are restoring it.
