The Winslow Indian Sanatorium Cemetery is located in Winslow, Arizona on the Historic Beale Wagon Road north of Desert View Cemetery, on land patented to the town of Winslow by President Wilson Oct.6, 1916 for a cemetery. It began as a pauper's graveyard for the Tuberculosis Sanatorium built in Winslow in 1932.When the facility was transferred to the United States Department of the Interior, Bureau of Indian Affairs, it was then referred to as the Indian Hospital. The cemetery was used at the convenience of the government because of the difficulty in contacting family members on the remote indian reservations in Arizona and New Mexico. We do not have a block/plot map. The volunteers of the City of Winslow Historic Preservation Commission, Vice-Chairwoman Gail Sadler has constructed the index of names for the cemetery. If you can provide additional information for this cemetery please contact the City of Winslow at (928) 289-2422.
