The origins of the Presbyterian Church came in 1850 when the Free Presbyterian Church of Buffalo was established in opposition to slavery and Federal passage of the Fugitive Slave Laws. The first pastor, Rev. George McElheny, would refuse communion to anyone who did not support a strong abolitionist stand. A building with cuppola was built along the Cowansville Road. In 1958 the two Presbyterian churches merged on the National level. In Worthington, they merged and a new church was built in 1968 near route 422 in Worthington. Both old Presbyterian churches were torn down.
