|Cemetery notes and/or description:|
S River Road, SW of the village of Evart.
In 1875, Sacred Heart Church was located on Cherry Street and Railroad Avenue. The first Catholic cemetery was located near this church. About 1878 the Church purchased 49 acres on River Road for a new cemetery. Ten acres were cleared. In 1880 most of this land was sold leaving only the ten acres for the cemetery. Many remains were moved from the old cemetery to the new Holy Cross Cemetery on River Road.
The new Sacred Heart Church was built about 1878 on South Main St. With the cemetery so far out of town, away from the church, it eventually became overgrown and forgotten.
In recent years concerned citizens have made an effort to restore the cemetery.
