Cemetery notes and/or description:
According to Bridgton oHistorical Records, Parker Brown and his wife, Ruth (Green) Brown, came to this area from Beverly, Massachusetts. The exact date of their arrival is not known.

The Browns ran a grist mill on Sucker Brook, which runs from beaver Pond (right out back of our restaurant) into Moose Pond. They also acquired the land betweene these two ponds, known for many years as the "Mill Privilege." The old, broken mill wheel can still be seen. According to an old map, the farmhouse built on the hill above the Sucker Brook site, on the crossroads, is one of the oldest in the area.

When his son, Israel, was 14 years old, Parker Brown left for what was to be a breif business trip to Beverly, Massachusetts. When his father never returned, Israel took over the responsibilty of the family and the mill. As he grew more successful, he built a small house on Mosquito Hill for his mother, sister, Betsey, and himself. Israel and Betsey lived here for many years; neither ever married.

The farm, now referred to as the late Clifford Smith home, has been the home of a descendent of the Brown family. Parker Brown (2nd) lived in the house on the north side of the road (now demolished), followed by his son Jonathan. In turn, Jonathan's son Loton lived in the residence, followed by Loton's son, Victor.

It was Jonathan Brown that the late Charles Stickney wrote of in the Bridgton News:
"A Smart man is Jonathan Brown;
From Pumpkin Valley he walked to town,
And back again walked Jonathan Brown."

May they all rest in Peace
