These records are taken directly from the tombstone records of an abandoned cemetery in Plainfield, Washington County, Vermont.
This cemetery is in the town of Plainfield, about 3 miles from Barre to Plainfield via the Hill Road. It is off "Lower Road".
This cemetery is currently called the "Bisson Barre Cemetery", but in the past it has been called the Bradford Kinney Cemetery as it was part of the farm Bradford Kinney owned in 1812. It has been used mainly as a family cemetery by the people living on the farm.
This farm is known to many as the L. Cheney Batchelder place, and was purchased about 1966 by Fred Bisson (thus it is called the Bisson Barre Cemetery). The farm land was in the "pitch" made by Isaac Washburn of Croydon NH in 1791.
The cemetery is about 100 square feet and possibly 300 feet from the road with hay fields on all sides. There is a good fence enclosing the plot, but many of the stones are broken or leaning badly, and ferns cover the graves.
The farm buildings are a few hundred feet downgrade from the cemetery.
Grave records for this site are pulled from the Vermont Genealogical Society, "Branches and Twigs" newsletter, Winter 1973.
The cemetery data was transcribed in September 1945 by Cora Batchelder Hawes, Regent, Rebecca Hastings Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution Barre Vermont. She was born on the farm and is a direct descendent of Joseph and Jonathan Moulton Batchelder, pioneers of Plainfield, Vermont. Cora lived in Barre, VT.
Joseph served in the Revolutionary War as part of the New Hampshire Militia in 1775. The largest monument in this cemetery is granite, and commemorates the Batchelder family.
