|Cemetery notes and/or description:|
According to our tour guide, Hemingway's two sons were given a kitten with six toes by a ship captain - in those days a six toed cat was considered to be good luck on a ship. The Ernest Hemingway Home and Museum is home to approximately sixty cats. Normal cats have five front toes and four back toes. About half of the cats at the museum are polydactyl, which means they have extra toes. The original cat has long since died, but all the Hemingway cats are buried in this little cemetery when they die. The current cats are often named for significant people.
