|Cemetery notes and/or description:|
Jerusalem Country Cemetery (also known as Luther Cemetery) is an old, small, abandoned and unmaintained graveyard in rural Yates County, about 6.5 miles (10.5 kilometers) southwest of Penn Yan, New York. The graveyard is visible across an open field, and located about 300 feet (100 yards or 91 meters), west of Shipman Road in the midst of brush and trees. Approximately 60 graves are known to exist.
Unfortunately, many tombstones are broken, fallen or missing. Burials within Jersusalem Country (Luther) Cemetery, from the early 1800s until early 1900s, represent some of the early pioneer settlers and their descendants, who were former residents of Jerusalem, Benton, Milo, Penn Yan and other locations in Ontario and Yates counties, including faithful members of the Society of Universal Friends (Quakers).
Directions to Jerusalem Country (Luther) Cemetery are as follows. Suggested route is 6.5 miles (10.5 kilometers) and duration of 14 minutes.
