|Cemetery notes and/or description:|
The Still Cemetery in Macon County, Missouri, can be seen in this picture as the area that is enclosed in the white fence posts. Photo was taken from Highway 3 which runs on the east side of it. There is no road access. I took this picture in 1973. I climbed the fence to view the graves there. Only 6 stones were visable at that time. I have driven by this location more recently and the condition is much worse now with lots of tree overgrowth. The cemetery is located on what used to be the Elmer Thomas Thurman farm. He was a great great nephew of William and Cynthia (LeCompte) Thurman who are buried in this cemetery. One of the previous owners of this land and probably the founder of this cemetery was Rev. Abraham Still, father of Dr. Andrew Taylor Still, the famous founder of Osteopathic Medicine. One of Andrew's infant children is buried here. Another owner of this land was Col. George Edwards.
