|Cemetery notes and/or description:|
Jacob (II) Wilhoite Family Cemetery directions - from the intersection of New Center Church Road and Hwy 82 go 6 tenths of a mile on New Center Church Road and turn left into Goose Creek Road. Travel Goose Creek Road for 1 mile and 7 tenths and there will be a gate on your left. After permission find the cemetery up the slope in front of the old barn across the fence with large Limestone Slabs covering the graves. No inscribed markers can be found.
A trip to explore Goose Creek in Bedford County found this place as pictured in the book Jacob Wilhoite 1751-1821 and his descendents. There was one large slab that was 8 inches thick and about 10' long X 6' wide, enough to cover two graves along with other stones none of which showed any signs of having inscriptions.
The 1876 D.G. Beers map shows a J. Wilhoite living about 1/4 mile north of Mt Hermon. I cannot reconcile that information with the above finding. The site is supposed to be the home site of a son Jacob Wilhoite b. 1819 who lived past 1876, who was the son of our subject. It is believed his father Jacob Wilhoite & his wife Mary Powell Wilhoite are interred there.
The map I used has the name Parker Cemetery attached to the place and I can't reconcile why that name is on the graveyard unless Parkers are also interred there.
