|Cemetery notes and/or description:|
This cemetery lies approximately 2.5 miles to the north of the village of Chatham in Sangamon County, Illinois. It is located on the east side of Rt. 4 (Veterans Parkway) leading to Springfield, Illinois. It is located in a wooded area and fenced but no gate. There is no roadway or drive; parking must be on the side of the road on busy Rt. 4 so caution is in order.
The cemetery is about 100 yards southwest of an excavation where the old Bethel Church once stood. Burials occurred here from 1836 through 1902. The Chatham Glenwood High School FFA cleaned up the cemetery and built the fence in the mid-1980s. The more current cleanup of this cemetery was an Eagle Scout project of Sam T. Hamra of Troop and Crew 210 and sponsored by Asbury Methodist Men in 2000. A new cemetery sign was erected in the spring of 2011.
