|Cemetery notes and/or description:|
In his book, History of Spartanburg County, Dr. J. B. O. Landrum refers to the burial place of the Rev. John Mullennix and his wife, Rebecca, as "The old Foster's meeting-house place near Fair Forest, S.C." Dr. Landrum's book was published in 1900 and he refers to Foster's as "old", and he refers to the "place", implying that the meeting house no longer existed in 1900. The Rev. Mullennix was a Methodist minister for 33 years, who died in 1836 and is buried here.
Microfilm research of old newspaper obituaries of persons buried at this site reveal that the cemetery is known as "Foster Cemetery." Most of the burials within the last seven decades have been associated with the CME Church.
The cemetery appears to be abandoned, the last identifiable burial here being 1984. The earliest readable date is 1834. There is no obvious upkeep; it is very overgrown. Most of the graves are either marked with field stones or are unmarked. Many graves are sunken depressions. Many inscribed markers are fallen over or broken; some are badly weathered and no longer readable. The cemetery appears to be about an acre in size and to contain about 100 graves.
