|Cemetery notes and/or description:|
Brandon is a village in County Durham, in England. It is situated about 4 miles to the southwest of the City of Durham. Brandon was originally one of the seven townships within the ancient parish of Brancepeth. It grew from a sparsely populated agricultural area into a populous mining district after the establishment of collieries and later coke and fireclay works. Until the 19th century Brandon village, formerly known as East Brandon, was one of the larger settlements in Brancepeth Parish.
Coal mining finally came to an end at Brandon on 15 March 1968. (text by Geoffrey Gillon)
