The Barks Chapel Church was organized in 1894. Originally set up as Methodist every other Sunday, alternating with General Baptist the opposite Sundays. The church and cemetery is named after the prominent Barks family of the community, and the oldest marked grave in the cemetery is that of Joseph Barks who died in 1881. This establishes the cemetery
prior to the church. Burials continue to the present, and the cemetery is well maintained year round.
