|Cemetery notes and/or description:|
St. Mary's Byzantine Church Cemetery is part of a three Cemetery Complex. (Four if one wishes to be technical.) This cemetery is the middle cemetery and, if one follows the driving directions, it is the second one, right after the St. John's Lutheran and just before the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery. These three cemeteries, on located on Cemetery Road and are between Sagamore and Beyer, PA.
At this point, Cemetery Road is the boundary line between Armstrong and Indiana County. (From Route 210; the left side, of this road, is Armstrong County and the right side, is Indiana County.) The cemeteries are smack dab on the county line with the Sacred Heart and St. Mary's Cemeteries being totally inside South Mahoning Township, Indiana County, by about 10 yards, while the St. John's Cemetery is one half in Cowanshannock Township, Armstrong County and one half in South Mahoning Township, Indiana County. (This Indiana County half is technically referred to as the St. John's Lutheran Community Cemetery; although it is really part of the church cemetery and it is directly across the small road from the church.)
Now, here is the important part: Even though technially, this cemetery is in Indiana County, all three of these cemeteries are considered, by the locals, to be in the Sagamore, Armstrong County PA area and none of them are referred to as being in any other locale. (If you ask directions, any local will first direct you to Sagamore, in order to locate these places.)
From the Post Office, in Sagamore, Cowanshannock Township, PA, drive north, on Route 210, for 0.80 miles to the intersection, at Cemetery Road. (Gee, I wonder why they call it Cemetery Road?) At this intersection, turn left, onto Cemetery Road and drive for 0.1 miles, to the Church, at the St. John's Lutheran Church Cemetery. The other two cemeteries are along the same road and they are back to back to back.
