Cemetery notes and/or description:
In the late 1960's the town of Fairfield was flooded by the construction of what became Brookville Lake. In order to build the lake, it was necessary to relocate the cemeteries from Fairfield to "New Fairfield". The new location became a combined cemetery. The two main cemeteries at Fairfield were Brier Cemetery which was on the south side of town and Sims Cemetery which was north of town. The original cemeteries were in Union County but they are now in Franklin County. When the cemeteries were moved, the remains were laid out in the same order that they were originally in the original cemeteries.

Besides the being referred by the names of the relocated cemeteries, the cemetery is also known as:
Fairfield Cemetery
Sims-Brier Cemetery
Community Cemetery

The cemeteries relocated to this cemetery are:
Kober Cemetery / Kolter Cemetery (Cemetery #1)
Abner-McCarty Cemetery / McCarty Cemetery (Cemetery #2)
Logan Cemetery / Stout Cemetery / Grace Stout Cemetery (Cemetery #3)
Gavin Cemetery / Gravin Cemetery (Cemetery #4)
Old Templeton Cemetery / Templeton-Sims Cemetery (Cemetery #5)
Klipple Cemetery (Cemetery #6)
Dickerson Cemetery (Cemetery #7)
Barrickman Cemetery (Cemetery #8)
Fairfield South Cemetery / Brick Cemetery / Brier Cemetery #1 (Cemetery #9)
Lewiston Cemetery / Templeton Cemetery / Leviston and Templeton Cemetery (Cemetery #10)
Ewing Cemetery / Harrell Cemetery (Cemetery #11)
Sims Cemetery / Brier Cemetery #2 (Cemetery #12)
Jonas Cemetery (Cemetery #13)

Indiana Cemetery Locations, Volume 4, published by the Indiana Genealogical Society (April 2009), gives the primary cemetery name as Fairfield Cemetery.
The cemetery is listed in the Cemetery and Burial Grounds Registry of the Indiana Department of Natural Resources (DNR) and in the State Historical Architectural and Archaeological Research Database (SHAARD) with Cemetery Record Number CR-24-52 (Sims-Brier / Community / Fairfield).
