|Cemetery notes and/or description:|
Salem Baptist Church is one of the older churches in Westmoreland County. It was organized in 1865 and probably worshipped in brush arbors as did many of its sister churches until it obtained land and was able to erect a building.
On March 7, 1877, B.F. Brown granted George Smith, Whitfield Johnson, and George W. Thompson, Trustees for Salem Baptist Church, a piece or parcel of land containing an estimated one-half acre. Sometime during the year 1880, carpenter Peter Hackett and assistant Willis Washington constructed the first church building, which was dedicated that same year. The original 1880 church still stands today.
