|Cemetery notes and/or description:|
There is no entrance sign with the name Rice Cemetery. It was named decades ago for the Rice Schoolhouse which stood across the street and no longer exists.
This is a well-maintained, quaint old cemetery started by families of the pioneers of this small area of Marshall County, Alabama, just a few hundred feet outside the Arab city limits. New burials occur regularly, and it is not uncommon today for friends and family members of the deceased to dig the graves by hand and then as a group shovel the dirt to cover the grave immediately after the graveside service. There is no charge for new plots in this graveyard.
