|Cemetery notes and/or description:|
Located next to Saint Charles Borromeo Catholic Church. Mount Loretto Catholic Cemetery is named after a shrine in Italy. It is a church cemetery and an example of the oldest type in the U.S. The older part of the cemetery is laid out in rectangles. The headstone has the family name and the footstones have carved initials indicating where the deceased members of that particular family are buried. Many of the inscriptions face west so that visitors are not standing on the grave to read the inscription. There are two types of markers. A soft gray granite tombstone is over most of the graves and a flat bronze marker for military personnel is over the rest. Each marker is unique and reflects Catholic heritage.
